Last October, Microsoft gave us a sneak peek of Touch Bar support in its Mac apps, including Word Focus Mode. In addition, Microsoft confirmed that Touch Bar support for Outlook and Skype for Business would be coming soon. Microsoft also added a new slider to the Touch Bar so you can rotate an object-like an image or a new layer-more precisely in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In PowerPoint, the Touch Bar gets “view-specific controls” to present a slideshow. In Word, you can use the Touch Bar to insert photos, hyperlinks, or comments in your document. The public version includes new capabilities for Office users.

MacBook Pro users can access these features by going to Help > Check for updates in any of their Office for Mac apps. Microsoft first announced Touch Bar support in October, and a preview was released to members of the Office Insider program earlier this month. This gives the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps new contextual capabilities on the new MacBook Pro. On Thursday, Microsoft released Touch Bar support to all Office for Mac users. And from the Today view on the Touch Bar you can not only see your calendar events for the day, but even join a Skype for Business meeting. One tap and you can add a file-either as an attachment or a link. When composing a new mail, the Touch Bar displays a list of recent documents. The Touch Bar also provides quick access to borders, cell colors and recommended charts-making it easier than ever to organize and visualize your data.įinally, the Touch Bar in Outlook provides quick access to the most commonly used commands as you work on email and manage your calendar. For example, with a tap (for the formula) and another tap (for a named range) in the Touch Bar, you can quickly sum a range in your spreadsheet. Typing an equals sign into a cell in Excel immediately pulls up the most recently used functions in the Touch Bar. And by sliding your finger across the Touch Bar you can easily rotate an object to get just the right angle. The Reorder Objects button produces a graphical map of all the layers on a slide, making it easy to find the right object and move it where you want it. Touch Bar commands in PowerPoint allow you to easily manipulate graphic elements. One tap and you can quickly apply a new style to a heading or paragraph. The Touch Bar is perfect for this moment, putting the most relevant Word features at your fingertips.
